October 2021 Shoes

Testing: Adidas Adios Adizero Pro -  Not a bad shoe.  Have to try a longer distances.  Very similar to Atreyu, but firmer. Atreyu Artist - One run.  All is good.  Feels similar to Adidas Adizero Adios Pro.  Weight is not even close to the prototypes (8 oz vs 6.2 oz).  Dirt cheap at $100. In Rotation: Atreyu Artist - Need to really tighten shoes for fit.  Kinda like Adidas Adios Pro Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race/track only. NB Rebel #2 - Will start to use more.  But probably only for track days. NB TC - Too heavy and thick compared to Speed. Just working it through to 200 miles. Nike Alphafly - Long run shoes.  Considering as choice for next Boston to address downhills.  Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 Aqua - Close to retiring.  Feel like it has lost bounce at 120 miles. Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 White/Pink - Current racing shoe  Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Like this over the Pegasus.  Firmer ride.  Better for trails. Saucony Endorphin Speed - NYC version.  < 100 miles before retiring. Saucony Endorph

One Day after Boston 2021

Arrive Boston on Saturday, Oct 9.  Flight delayed due to lack of pilot for an hour.  Lucky that the flight wasn't cancelled (more on that later). Arrive a Hotel Newbury with no issues.  Nice hotel that has been updated.  Highly recommend as close to race and and right across from the commons. Easy lunch at Saltie Girl restaurant. Got our seafood fix (lobster, oysters).   Walked around BackBay area.   Went to vaccine verification tent and Expo.  Expo was a big letdown after Chicago with no vendors.  Probably related to covid.   Picked up Tracksmith Singlet. Dinner at GrandTour restaurant.  Fish and Raw Steak (yummy). Sorbet for desert. Shake-out run Sunday morning and run down to start line. Brunch in Chinatown at Dim Sum.  Nice place, but Chicago Dim Sum was better.  Picked up some pastries for desert. Went down to Finish Line for pictures and t-shirts. Easy afternoon watching No Time To Die. Dinner at Teatro Italian.  Spagetti and Meatballs. Morning of race, woke up at 6am.  No is

One Week Before Boston!!!!

Finished final long run on Sunday at 10 miles.  Pace is slower than 2019 with last few weeks of training have been high mileage.  Topped at 49 miles avg paces in the 8:45 min/mile range.  Long runs have been just getting through them with lots of issues around nausea (corrected with more cool down time). Current race attire/equipment are as planned (temperatures in the mid 50s to 60's): Nike Aeroswift Singlet Disposable sock as arm warmer Disposable gloves Janji or Adidas 3inch shorts (gave up on Path shorts due to tightening cord getting in the way) Julbi sunglasses (may not use if cloudy day since I found they got in the way when I sweat) injinji socks  Vaporfly Next % 2 Naked Running Belt 2 containers for 6 BCAA and 6 salt capsules 5 Huma and 5 Spring gels placed into 2 containers (150 ML hydropac soft flasks)  1 Clif Chew Blocks (6) Cell phone (Jelly Pro) Forerunner 935 Stryd wind pod Garmin dynamics pod Pre-race Gear disposable jacket old sweat shirt old sweat pants Nike Next
