2022 One Plus Month after Boston

Thoughts 1+ month after Boston 22: Due to changes in airplane flights, had to push flight from mid-afternoon to 1st thing in the morning.  This worked out well in the end.  Arrived in Boston by 8:30am.  Slept till noon and then went to lunch and the expo.   Meals were much "lighter" then the 1st time I ran in the fall.  This was a good idea. The expo was MUCH better.  Felt more like the Chicago expo vs. the horrible Oct Boston expo.  Jess tried alot of shoes.  We did end up buying a roller (R8).  I still like this device, especially for calfs. Surprised how much time we spent at the expo (over 3hours between getting bib and walking around).  Didn't buy anything except the roller. Had to stop by tracksmith to buy a singlet.  The color one I wanted was out of stock (a bummer). Now to rag on the Ritz.  As soon as I arrived, asked about breakfast on the day of the run.  Didn't get any clear answers.  By Sunday, I had given up and went to CVS to buy peanut butter and jelly

20220404 - 2 Weeks before Boston 2022

So, in taper for Boston.  Last week was a bit off with the throwing up situation after the long run.  Missed one day, which cost me 7 miles of distance.  Long run on Sunday was slow the last 2 miles.  Not as much energy given having to run 4 days in a row due to the first 2 days of the week being off for recovery.   Switched gels away from Precision Hydration due to the over use during the 20 miler.  Switched back to Spring and Huma.  Still a bit off on the long run.  Believe it wasn't due to the gels though.  Focused on a gel every 3 miles and water every mile. Weight hovering around 139.  Low was 136.5 this weekend.  Will see if we can keep it under 140 leading into the race. Locked in on the following: Path Projects Shorts Tracksmith Singlet (BQ or Chi) Injinji mid-weight socks 5 Springs and 5 Humas Garmin 945 Julbo sunglasses Arm Warmers (Zensah) Gloves - Merino Vaporfly Next % 2 Naked Running Belt - 6 8 oz flask (will rely on more water at the stations) - upgrade if hotter to

20220215 Wear and Run Notes

30 degrees, little wind Compressor socks Brooks jacket Mittens and mitten Bjorn long sleeve Icebreaker 150 tights Green speed Somewhat cold toes, though felt warmer at end.  Took jacket off at mile 1.5, and was a bit brisk for rest of the run.  Took off mittens, then merino mitten.  Put the mitten back on around mile 5, which help reduce the cold on the chest.  Probably a vest would have been good. Right knee felt much better.  Left knee generally felt good, but was a bit tweaky at times.  No ankle issues.

20220208 Wear and Run Notes

30 degrees, no wind. reverse 7 miles Mittens - merino 150 merino tights, underwear, path projects 250 shirt red vest - took off at 2 miles nuwool socks - a bit cold at end, need tape speed Good run.  Took vest, then gloves off.  Did get cold hands in the end.  Tights were fine.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

20220206 Wear and Run Notes

Long run.  35 degrees, sunny, B&A merino gloves merino long sleeve (lighter) airnet tights with underwear and shorts vaporflys with tape nuwool injinji socks almost too hot in sunlight, but cold enough in shade took off gloves, but had to put them on in the end socks were warm.  probably could have done without tape.  my guess is could use down to 30 degrees could switch top to short sleeve and arm warmers tights were ok.  if anything, almost too hot.  Could take down to 30 degrees.   Fueling was 2 maurten.  Took one around mile 3 and another at mile 7.5.  Also took one salt and one BCAA tablet.  Last 3.5 felt a bit better.   Didn't put chafe on underarm and was sore (forgot).  Can't miss this, even at 11 miles.  Also put on lip balm.

20220205 Wear Notes

28-29 degrees.  Light weight jacket, tights, long sleeve, drymax socks, Aurora BL shoes, merino mittens. Jacket was fine at start.  Could have taken off. Long sleeve worked fine.  Was brooks ugly shirt.  Could have gone to tech sleeve. Drymax socks were warm! Originally had tape, but didn't need it.  Could have gone colder as almost too warm.   Mittens worked fine.  Just a bit different than the gloves, but still ok. Based on runwin and + 10 degrees, should have been able to get away with a vest and 3/4.  Likely would have been ok, but since pace was slower, still worked out.
