March 2022 Shoes

Testing:

  • Adidas Adios Adizero Pro 2 -  Not a bad shoe.  Have to try a longer distances.
  • Puma Deviate Nitro Elite - Nice.  Feels like lower drop than 8mm.  Not sure I can take longer distances.
  • Saucony Ride 15 - First run was pretty firm.  Likely won't try again till after Boston.
In Rotation:
  • Brooks Aurora-BL - Just purchased as an alternative to the Maxroad 5.  Transitions faster.
  • New Balance RC Elite 2 - Nice, soft, long distance shoe. Soft enough to use for other runs.
  • Nike Alphafly - Long run shoes.  Need to wear down.
  • Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 White/Pink - Training shoe now.
  • Nike Vaporfly Next % Volt - Boston race shoe.
  • Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Like this over the Pegasus.  Firmer ride.  Better for trails.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed - Green. Current goto speed.  Almost retirement age.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 - Blue. Starting in rotation.
  • Saucony Endorphin Pro - Firmer than Vaporfly.  But not bad.  Probably won't take over 1/2 marathon.  Good for shorter races.  Will use as primary trainer for long runs.
Shoes "in the wings":
  • CTM Ultra - Firm ride.  Alternative to cushioned shoes.
  • Nike Pegasus 36 Trail - Prefer the Sense Ride 2 as it is not as squishy on the trail.
  • Nike Vaporfly Next % BRS - Training shoe now.  Will likely save till Fall/Dec and the temperature falls.
  • Saucony Kinvara 11- Purchased for training of 4mm.  Not as bouncy as other shoes, but not too bad.  Firm, but cushioned.
  • Saucony Freedom 3 - Liking this shoe.  Upper is a bit loose though.  Nice bounce.  Also, my 4mm training shoe.  Less of a priority right now.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed Runshield - Use for cold days.
  • Saucony Speed Black - Next speed.
  • Skechers Maxroad 5 - Long/Easy day shoe.  Took awhile to break in.  Wearing fast.  Seems like a lot of foam under the shoe. Leaning towards not using.
Retired/Returned:
  • Atreyu Artist - Bad fit. Feels similar to Adidas Adizero Adios Pro.  Weight is not even close to the prototypes (8 oz vs 6.2 oz).  Dirt cheap at $100.
  • NB Rebel #2 - Leaning for retirement.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race/track only.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed Used - Black.  Retired.
  • Skechers Gorun 7+ - Gave up after about 80 miles.  Not a horrible shoe, but just not enough bounce.
Thinking About:
  • Asics Metaspeed Sky - Pass.  I have other carbon plated shoes.
  • Hoka Rocket X - Pass, not as "bouncy" as RC Elite 2.
  • New Balance Rebel 2 - Too unstable.
  • Puma Fast-R - Pass.  Reviews weren't that compelling.
  • Puma Liberate - Really good reviews, but have the speed.  Will probably wait till sale.
  • Reebok Energy 3 - Pass.  I still have an Energy in the box.
  • Skechers Excess - Pass.  Given up on Skechers.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

Finding a Running Coach

So, I decided that I wanted to try to find a running coach this summer to help with my marathon PR.  I started by reaching out to a coach that reviews shoes on 2 websites that I go to.  After a 30 minute discussion, I wasn't totally sold.  He was nice enough, but he lives in CA (so no one-on-ones), and wanted some level of commitment to his plan/schedule (i.e., his workouts would trump other training, like my Striders' marathon training).  His costs were $325 per 3 months. I then reached out to a coach on another website.  Most of the coaches had significant running experience.  I had a free consultation with the recommended one for me.  It was a nice conversation and he was more flexible than the 1st individual.  Cost was $60 for a plan, $39 for a consultation or $189 per month for more one-on-one work.  He lived in OR, so it was video conferencing one a week.  I was ready to try him out for a month, but I sent some final questions to...
