2020 March Shoes

Testing:
  • Zoomfly 3 - Very stiff (even more so than ZF 2).  Leaning towards returning.
  • Salomon Accelerate - Just getting in.  Will test.
In Rotation:
  • Adidas Boston 8 - Kinda enjoy this shoe.  Lots of bounce in the heel.
  • NB Rebel - Goto fast and medium distance shoe.  Likely to use more since max distances right now are around 13 miles.
  • NB Propel - Goto easy run shoe.  I am doing less of this since most long runs include a progression or fast finish.
  • Reebok Run Fast - Really like this shoe as an alternate to the Rebel.  That said, it is firmer.  Starting rotating it in.  I have a backup-pair I need to use too.
  • Salomon Sonic RA 2 - Nice bounce.  But, there seems to be an issue with the right shoe in the little toe area.  Only noticed on last run (and I had 40+ miles already).  Will need to try again without over-tightening laces.  If I have issues again, will retire to casual use.
  • Vaporfly 4% and Next % - Races.
Shoes "in the wings":
  • Adidas Solar Glide - Rotating in on easy run.
  • Adidas Prime - Not high on the list, but ready.
  • Altra Escalante - Looking for opportunity to rotate in.
  • Altra Escalante Racer - Test shoe before using Run Fast Pro.
  • Reebok Energy - Not sure why, but don't seem to want to put into rotation.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race only.
Retired:
  • New Balance 1080 v9 - I have the propel, and this shoe has over 250 miles.  Nice walking around.
  • Nike 4% Orange - Retired since over 200 miles and potentially causing pronation issues.
  • Reebok Sweet Road 2 - Too Firm.
  • Saucony Freedom Denim - Gave away.
  • Skecher's Razor 3 - Though I liked this shoe for fast use case, but I find the NB Rebel more to my liking.  With over 130 miles, I am done with it.
Thinking About:
  • Asics Novablast - Conflicting reviews.  Might be bouncy/max cushion.
  • Adidas 4D - Not really for running, but interesting midsole.
  • NB TC - Waiting for delivery in April.
  • NB RC - Watching for reviews.  Release is in April.
  • Nike Alphafly - Just want to know when I can get one.
  • Saucony Pro, Speed - Waiting for more reviews.  Probably most interested in the Speed.  Not available till July.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

Nike Vaporfly Next % Volt - Race shoe.  Puma Deviate Nitro Elite - Nice.  Feels like lower drop than 8mm.  Not sure I can take longer distances.  My track shoe. Saucony Endorphin Speed - NYC. Retirement age. Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 - Blue. Starting...

Finding a Running Coach

So, I decided that I wanted to try to find a running coach this summer to help with my marathon PR.  I started by reaching out to a coach that reviews shoes on 2 websites that I go to.  After a 30 minute discussion, I wasn't totally sold.  He was nice enough, but he lives in CA (so no one-on-ones), and wanted some level of commitment to his plan/schedule (i.e., his workouts would trump other training, like my Striders' marathon training).  His costs were $325 per 3 months. I then reached out to a coach on another website.  Most of the coaches had significant running experience.  I had a free consultation with the recommended one for me.  It was a nice conversation and he was more flexible than the 1st individual.  Cost was $60 for a plan, $39 for a consultation or $189 per month for more one-on-one work.  He lived in OR, so it was video conferencing one a week.  I was ready to try him out for a month, but I sent some final questions to...
