2021 January Shoes

So, had issues with the Alphafly on the long run, so redirected shoes for 4mm and consistency.

 Testing:

  • Nike Alphafly - one 13 mile run.  Caused some calf issues.  Likely the 4mm drop.  Had to buy a 4mm drop to prepare.  Will re-try after some miles on Kinvara.  Picked up a 2nd (in black) as the primary race shoe.  The white will be used for training.
  • Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Got from ebay.  Firmer than the Pegasus Trail (in a good way).  Need to actually run in them now.  Like the cushion.
  • Saucony Endorphin Pro - Going back and forth on this one.  Really like the Speed, so you would think this is a good choice. But, the Alphafly was soo much bouncier than the Speed. Also worried about the stiffness in the plate.
In Rotation:
  • Atryeu - Like the shoe, but limited bounce.
  • Asics Novablast - Very bouncy, but also a bit sinky.  Rotate with 1080 v10.
  • NB 1080 v10 - Longer, easy runs.  Still weighs .4 oz over specifications.
  • NB Rebel 2 - Will start to use.
  • Nike Pegasus 36 Trail - Not much use recently as it has been raining.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race/track only.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed - Working through mutant version (over 200 miles).  NYC version broken in.
  • Saucony Kinvara 11- Purchased for training of 4mm.  Not as bouncy as other shoes, but not too bad.  Firm, but cushioned.
  • Vaporfly 4% - Using for long runs at marathon pace.  Over 150 miles.
  • Vaporfly Next % - Saving for races.  If Endorphin Pro works, will leverage over this shoe.  Once 4% is over 200 miles (in a month), will use Next %.
Shoes "in the wings":
  • Atryu Artist - Waiting for delivery.
  • NB TC - Too heavy and thick compared to Speed. Just working it through to 300 miles.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro London - One run, and seemed to work well.  The heel irritation was less of an issue once running at speed.
Retired/Returned:
  •
Thinking About:
  • Vaporfly Next % Mango - Hmm.... still can get this shoe.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

May 2022 Shoes

Testing: Adidas Adios Adizero Pro 2 -  Not a bad shoe.  Have to try a longer distances. Hoka Mach 4 - Excited to try this shoe.  Finally on sale. In Rotation: Brooks Aurora-BL - Just purchased as an alternative to the Maxroad 5.  Transitions faster. New Balance RC Elite 2 - Nice, soft, long distance shoe. Soft enough to use for other runs. Nike Alphafly - Long run shoes.  Need to wear down.  Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 Aqua - Training shoe. Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 White/Pink - Training shoe. Nike Vaporfly Next % Volt - Race shoe.  Puma Deviate Nitro Elite - Nice.  Feels like lower drop than 8mm.  Not sure I can take longer distances.  My track shoe. Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Like this over the Pegasus.  Firmer ride.  Better for trails. Saucony Endorphin Speed - Green. Retirement age. Saucony Endorphin Speed - Black old. Almost retirement age. Saucony Endorphin Speed - NYC. Retirement age. Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 - Blue. Starting...

Finding a Running Coach

So, I decided that I wanted to try to find a running coach this summer to help with my marathon PR.  I started by reaching out to a coach that reviews shoes on 2 websites that I go to.  After a 30 minute discussion, I wasn't totally sold.  He was nice enough, but he lives in CA (so no one-on-ones), and wanted some level of commitment to his plan/schedule (i.e., his workouts would trump other training, like my Striders' marathon training).  His costs were $325 per 3 months. I then reached out to a coach on another website.  Most of the coaches had significant running experience.  I had a free consultation with the recommended one for me.  It was a nice conversation and he was more flexible than the 1st individual.  Cost was $60 for a plan, $39 for a consultation or $189 per month for more one-on-one work.  He lived in OR, so it was video conferencing one a week.  I was ready to try him out for a month, but I sent some final questions to...
