April 2021 Shoes

 Testing:

  • Adidas Adios Adizero Pro -  Not a bad shoe.  Have to try a longer distances.  Very similar to Atreyu, but firmer.
  • Atreyu Artist - One run.  All is good.  Feels similar to Adidas Adizero Adios Pro.  Weight is not even close to the prototypes (8 oz vs 6.2 oz).  Dirt cheap at $100.
In Rotation:
  • Atryeu - Like the shoe, but limited bounce.  Light weight makes it more fun.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race/track only.
  • Nike Alphafly - Kinda figured out the issues.  Worked through the 4mm drop issues.  They got toe issues with too much room in right foot. Used thicker socks and this seemed to solve the problem. Still worried about a longer run.
  • Nike Vaporfly 4% - Using for long runs at marathon pace.  Over 210 miles.  Will retire soon.
  • Nike Vaporfly Next % - Purchased a 2nd pair.  This is still my favorite racing shoe. Will use a training shoe as head into the fall marathon.  Will use other carbon plated shoes for races prior.
  • Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Like this over the Pegasus.  Firmer ride.  Better for trails.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed - NYC version.  Retired Mutant version with over 270 miles.  Will be my goto training shoe for the summer.
  • Saucony Endorphin Pro - Firmer than Vaporfly.  But not bad.  Probably won't take over 1/2 marathon.  Good for shorter races.  Will use as primary trainer for long runs.
  • Saucony Freedom 3 - Liking this shoe.  Upper is a bit loose though.  Nice bounce.  Also, my 4mm training shoe.
Shoes "in the wings":
  • Asics Novablast - Very bouncy, but also a bit sinky.
  • NB 1080 v10 - Longer, easy runs.  Still weighs .4 oz over specifications.
  • NB TC - Too heavy and thick compared to Speed. Just working it through to 200 miles.
  • NB Rebel #2 - Will start to use more.  But probably only for track days.
  • Nike Pegasus 36 Trail - Prefer the Sense Ride 2 as it is not as squishy on the trail.
  • Saucony Kinvara 11- Purchased for training of 4mm.  Not as bouncy as other shoes, but not too bad.  Firm, but cushioned.
Retired/Returned:
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro London - Going to have to be a casual shoe. Not enough cushion.  I will use the Pro for normal track days.
  • Reebok Floatride Energy - Had some arch pain the last time I ran in them.
Thinking About:
  • Asics Metaspeed Edge - Took a pass on the Sky.  I think I am a cadence runner, so waiting for the edge.
  • Nike Vaporfly Next % 2 - Missed the release and likely will pass since I got a version 1 backup.
  • Puma Deviate Nitro Elite - Missed the initial release.
  • Puma Liberate - really good reviews, but have the speed.  Will probably wait till late summer.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

Nike Vaporfly Next % Volt - Race shoe.  Puma Deviate Nitro Elite - Nice.  Feels like lower drop than 8mm.  Not sure I can take longer distances.  My track shoe. Finding a Running Coach

So, I decided that I wanted to try to find a running coach this summer to help with my marathon PR.  I started by reaching out to a coach that reviews shoes on 2 websites that I go to.  After a 30 minute discussion, I wasn't totally sold.  He was nice enough, but he lives in CA (so no one-on-ones), and wanted some level of commitment to his plan/schedule (i.e., his workouts would trump other training, like my Striders' marathon training).  His costs were $325 per 3 months. I then reached out to a coach on another website.  Most of the coaches had significant running experience.  I had a free consultation with the recommended one for me.  It was a nice conversation and he was more flexible than the 1st individual.  Cost was $60 for a plan, $39 for a consultation or $189 per month for more one-on-one work.  He lived in OR, so it was video conferencing one a week.  I was ready to try him out for a month, but I sent some final questions to...
