2020 October Shoes

Starting moving shoes around to minimize change as I ramp up for marathon.  Focus is on Alphafly, Next %, Speed, Run Fast and Novablast (though Speed can cover).

 Testing:

  • Adidas Adios Pro - Not sure if will be able to activate carbon rods.
  • New Balance RC Elite - Multiple runs.  Seems to have pronation issues.  Might have to return.
  • Nike Alphafly - 1 run so far.  No issues.  Likely to be my marathon shoe.
  • Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Got from ebay.  Firmer than the Pegasus Trail (in a good way).  Need to actually run in them now.
In Rotation:
  • Asics Novablast - This shoe is interesting as the heel is noticeable.  Have had to adjust to feel comfortable.
  • Nike Pegasus 36 Trail - Over 40 miles on the shoe and still get foot aches.  I wonder if it is the trails vs. shoes.  Will try with Sense Ride 2 to see if there is pain..
  • Reebok Run Fast - Really like this shoe as an alternate to the Rebel. Usually use for trail intervals as I don't want to chew up one of my less tractioned-outsole road shoes.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro - Race/track only.  Not enough cushion for 5K/10K for me on the road unless I become more efficient in my running form.
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed - My favorite all around shoe.  Bought a 2nd (NYC edition - yes!!!).
  • Vaporfly 4% and Next % - Races.  Still the best choice right now.  4% used for training runs (preferred over TC - not sure compared to RC).  Bringing back the Orange shoe for use.
Shoes "in the wings":
  • Atryeu - Like the shoe, but limited bounce.
  • NB 1080 v10 - With 2 runs, the shoe is breaking it.  It feels very comfortable for long, easy runs.
  • NB Rebel 2 - Waiting to wear out Run Fast.
  • NB TC - Enjoying the shoe for faster runs.  Weight is noticeable at longer distances.
  • Reebok Run Fast Pro London - One run, and seemed to work well.  The heel irritation was less of an issue once running at speed.
Retired/Returned:
  • Altra Escalante - Looking for opportunity to rotate in.
  • Altra Escalante Racer - 0 drop on delay mode right now.
  • Adidas Boston 8 - Moved out of rotation with all the other high-quality shoes.   Didn't give much energy return the last time I ran with it.
  • Reebok Panthea - Really liked this shoe, until I started getting foot pains on the left.  Seems like a pronation issue. Will wait till after the marathon to try again.
  • Reebok Energy - Retired.  Tried running and got right foot arch pain.  Very little arch support in the shoe. Wasn't worth the "energy" to figure out the issue.
  • Salomon Accelerate - Tried again after months of not using.  Still firm, and still getting issues with the right foot, little toe going a bit numb.  Will return to REI.
  • Skechers Gorun 7+ - Shoes seem to work better, but the lower drop just isn't cutting it.  I have given up on low drop hyperburst shoes for now.
Thinking About:
  • Asics Metaracer - Gave up on these as the real weight was heavier than listed.
  • Atreyu Artist - Pre-ordered.  Very interesting at $100.
  • Reebok Synergy - Pass, bad reviews.
  • Saucony Endorphin Pro - Going back and forth on this one.  Really like the Speed, so you would think this is a good choice.  But, the Alphafly was soo much bouncier than the Speed.

20220206 Stryd Pod Calibration Change

So, it seemed obvious today that the pod was still off.  It seems to be reading short of the intended distance based on 7 mile circuit and initial readings on my 11 mile run today.  I feel like .20 miles short on 7 miles.  So .0286 miles off per mile.  Current calibration is 99.3.  Reset to 100.  Current calculations indicate 102.25

2020 December Shoes

So, had issues with the Alphafly on the long run, so redirected shoes for 4mm and consistency.  Testing: Nike Alphafly - one 13 mile run.  Caused some calf issues.  Likely the 4mm drop.  Had to buy a 4mm drop to prepare.  Will re-try after some miles on Kinvara.  Picked up a 2nd (in black) as the primary race shoe.  The white will be used for training. Salomon Sense Ride 2 - Got from ebay.  Firmer than the Pegasus Trail (in a good way).  Need to actually run in them now.  Like the cushion. Saucony Kinvara 11- Purchased for training of 4mm.  Not as bouncy as other shoes, but not too bad.  Firm, but cushioned. In Rotation: Atryeu - Like the shoe, but limited bounce. Asics Novablast - Very bouncy, but also a bit sinky.  Rotate with 1080 v10. NB 1080 v10 - Longer, easy runs.  Still weighs .4 oz over specifications. NB Rebel 2 - Rotated in after run fast retirement. Nike Pegasus 36 Trail - Over 40 miles on the shoe and sti...
